Website Update: Coming Soon

I’ve been asked when will my cool clean hip website be ready and when my shows will start flowing. Rather than give the obligatory answer of “soon”. I will venture the time frame of late June to early July. I will continue to post to this site while work is in progress. Please keep checking back. Thank you!

Take a Different Path

First. This picture was NOT taken through the windshield of my car. That would be illegal and dangerous and besides my windshield isn’t that clean.

I took it while walking back to my car today. Oh no, there were no cars on this bridge. I may like to change things up from time to time, but I’m not completely insane, only a little. The City of Pittsburgh shuts down the Roberto Clemente Bridge before and during Pirate games for pedestrians and general ballgame merriment.

I enjoy this occasional little deviation in the path to my car. I gain a new perspective just by taking a different path. Walking daily on the bridge’s sidewalk, I really don’t notice the bridge much. I look at the rivers and the buildings. By walking right down the center of the bridge, I actually focus on the bridge itself. I appreciate the architecture and the engineering of this bridge. Also, I notice how big it actually is. This is a perspective that isn’t gained by driving. In the City of Bridges, it is easy to forget about an individual bridge when there are so many.

The same is true in life. We are creatures of habit. We drive the same way to work. Go to the same restaurants. Wear the same style of clothes. We do what we like or at least know. Often we don’t even notice it. It all becomes so predictable that if you would stop and think about it, you might wonder if you were experiencing your own Groundhog Day-esque phenomenon. Sometimes it’s important to perk up and take a different path. Drive a different way home from work, maybe you will see a landscaping idea that will be perfect for your house. Try a different restaurant, maybe you will experience some new tastes and add a new restaurant to your favorites. Wear a new style of clothes, maybe it will make you feel more confident.

Keep an eye open for different paths and other options. Have fun with it. You may just discover some new experiences, some of which you may actually enjoy. New discoveries often lead to small lifestyle changes that enrich our lives.

Anticipate Together

Do you remember what it felt like to anticipate Christmas as a kid? How about dates and dances when you were younger. Allow yourself to anticipate again and invite your spouse or significant other to do so with you.

Tell Her/Him About It….

“… tell her all your crazy dreams. Give her every reason to accept that you’re for real” Yes, these are some lyrics from Billy Joel’s “Tell her about it” but those words ring true.

Life has a way of whisking us away to a place of repetition, deadlines, and grown up responsibilities that seem to squeeze out many other important things in life… like spending time with the one you love… like spending QUALITY time with the one you love.

Have you ever had a day where you go to work, go to meetings, cart the kids around, take phone calls, answer emails, cook, clean, take out trash, defrag your hard drive, upload new blogs to your smartphone, upload a new profile picture, play Angry Birds and as you are getting ready for bed you notice your significant other is there and you smile and say “oh, hi”? Then string many of those days together in a row. Does this sound familiar? If so, this message is for you.

The first step to doing something special for the two of you is simply just to tell her/him about it. Get the creative juices flowing of what you want to do, where you want to go, and the experience you wish to have with each other.

It’s all about communicating. As soon as my wife wakes up from her nap on the couch where she is resting from an incredibly wonderful yet exhausting week, I’m going to tell her about the B&B with scenic trails near an Italian restaurant/winery that I want us to go to in a couple months. What is the get away or date night idea that you have? Go share that idea with your significant other right now. Don’t wait or life’s itinerary will replace yours.

Get out together and reconnect!
